Liner notes cont'd

On Get Down Live, the disco king and his funked-out court fuse kaleidoscopic guitar sounds and urgent disco grooves into an animated synergy of passion and soul. The album’s live recordings give it that natural, funky ‘70s feel that originally spawned disco fever. With a choice song selection including "Get Down Tonight" and "That’s The Way (I Like It)" as well as favorite ‘70s covers, such as James Brown’s "Sex Machine" and "I Feel Good," Get Down Live is a whirling blend of motion and emotion.

The warm and vibrant sound of this new album embraces the honest, good time essence of KC’s music that first carved grooves in the nation’s musical landscape back in 1974. KC, otherwise known as Harry Wayne Casey, Richard Finch and their cheerful gang first began getting serious attention in England in 1973 as The Sunshine Junkanoo Band. Having met at T.K. Studios in Miami, KC and Rick would get together and work on demos until they finally came up big in 1974 with a tune they had co-written called "Rock Your Baby." When the song went on to become a number one national hit for George McRae, they decided to form their own group, KC & The Sunshine Band.

The brass oriented disco flavor that comprised the backbone of the group’s sound was flexible enough to incorporate the hodgepodge of additional styles that KC and Rick had soaked up from the Miami scene. Motown, funk, Latin percussion, Caribbean spice, Southern soul and grooving pop hooks all seeped into the mix and enabled the band to create a refreshing, energetic and sensual style that charmed music fans everywhere.

KC became a one-man hit factory as songs like "That’s The Way (I Like It)," "Get Down Tonight," "Rock Your Baby" and "Keep It Comin’ Love" grew into national hits and became part of pop music vocabulary. With sales of over 75 million records, KC became one of the first white artists to successfully score on the R&B charts and was honored for his many achievements by being presented with four Grammys and an American Music Award.

As every decade goes through its wave of nostalgia, music and social trends come and go, but legends continue to shine. Since the start of 1993, America’s current ‘70s revival has boosted KC’s musical profile and enabled his career to flourish yet again. His return to the public arena was initiated last year when he starred in an NBC special entitled

"A ‘70s Celebration: The Beat is Back." Here, he appeared alongside a stellar line-up that included the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Meat Loaf, Taylor Dayne, Richard Max, Olivia Newton-John, and Sonny Bono to name but a few. Since this appearance, the last year and a half has brought KC a great deal of increased exposure. A profile piece aired on Entertainment Tonight in March ’94, and he has made appearances on Geraldo, The Marilu Henner Show, American Journal, and the popular weekly radio show, Celebrity Countdown.

Back in his hometown Miami, after a tour of the U.S., followed by performances in Asia, Hawaii and Australia, where he was literally mobbed at each stop by adoring fans, KC is hotter than ever. This past New Year’s Eve, KC appeared in the nationally televised Orange Bowl Parade aboard the Coca-Cola float and headlined the entertainment roster at the Big Orange New Year’s Celebration at Bayfront Park in Miami, one of the largest New Year’s celebrations in the country. He also headlined the Endymion Ball at the Superdome in New Orleans this past February, the mammoth black-tie affair celebrating Mardi Gras.

KC’s most recent credit is featured in a very popular and frequently aired Bud Light television commercial. The commercial, which shows an army of ants dragging a bottle of But Light to their anthill to throw a party, uses the original 1975 version of "Get Down Tonight" as its theme song. KC’s response to this latest wave of success? "That’s the Way (I Like It)!"
